A number of years ago Stirling Council erected “Welcome” signs, four in total, at various entrances to the woodland  that is situated behind the properties on the north side of Henderson Street.  The signs carried the inscription “Welcome to Mid Wood”. Many in the community questioned at that time, and have questioned since, the title Mid Wood as the area had never been known previously by this name.  The response from Stirling Council then was that this was what the council officers knew the area as and no correction was made to the signage.

Recently the Dr Welsh Trust through Councillor Kleinman have sought and obtained permission from Stirling Council to replace the signage with the correct and historic description of the area, Lower Westerton Wood.  The costs have been met by the Dr Welsh Trust and the opportunity has been taken to include contact details for the Dr Welsh Trust and also to up date the Stirling Council contact details.  Thanks to John Hardie at Lasting Impressions Signs in Stirling for all his help with this project
