An historic bible which is almost 200 years old has returned to its Bridge of Allan origins.

In 1827 James Stirling of Keir presented the then new Lecropt Church near the town with a bible.

Its subsequent history is unknown but it was recently presented to Bridge of Allan’s local history society, The Dr Welsh Trust, by Mrs Barbara Braes, daughter of the late Mr Ronald Baird.

Ronald Baird was formerly of Baird and Lumsden, factor of the Keir Estate and an elder of the church.

In turn, the Trust has returned it on long term loan to Lecropt Kirk who have had it rebound.

A spokesperson said this is particularly appropriate because in 2027 Lecropt Kirk will celebrate its bicentenary:’

The Dr Welsh Trust has an exhibition of local artefacts and documents in Bridge of Allan Library.

Every Tuesday morning someone from the Trust is in attendance at the library to answer any queries about local history.
