Toll-gate piers
Bridge of Allan’s toll gate was sited at the end of the bridge. You can see the stone piers, on the left, in this old photograph:

A previous post shared a report of an ‘extraordinary leap’ of a horse over this toll-gate.
When road tolls were abandoned in the late 19c, the stone piers were removed and left beside Inverallan Mill. They still lie there today.
