At Craig Mair’s recent talk for the Dr Welsh Trust: ‘Bridge of Allan in Old Maps’ I mentioned that the old bridge over the Allan Water [prior to 1959] had crossed the water at a 45 degree angle. My understanding that this zig-zag configuration with Henderson Street made the site at Inverallan [at the foot of the Lecropt Brae] an accident ‘hot-spot’.

The above photograph is of a warning sign that stood outside the old Police Station [near New Street junction] to warn travellers of the sharp bend to and from the old bridge.
